Find all files then grep in them...

Hello unix users, do you ever find yourself needing to find all mentions of myWonderfulFunction() in all *.cpp files in a certain directory and below. find will let you run a grep on its results, I keep forgetting the details and then spending way too much time looking for it again. I’m posting it here so that I don’t need to look for it again and maybe others will find this useful.

find . -name *.cpp -exec grep -q “myWonderfulFunction(” {} \; -print

note the ) is missing in the above statement to accommodate for parameters

not the ohio state kind. My wife just brought me one from the fridge, and for that I’ll write something nice about her on my blog. That way her and my mom and the two or three other friends know that I appreciate her letting me chill in my chair and still enjoy a nice chocolaty peanut butter treat that her aunt made. My wife is awesome for a myriad reasons, bringing me food is one of them.

So I’ve been a fan of google books for a while. I recently found out they’ve added magazines to the mix. So you’re researching something and don’t have access to lexus nexis…. go to google books and see whats available. Obviously no new stuff but some reasonably recent stuff is available. This is not going to replace lexus nexis but it could be a handy tool in the future. For now its just kind of cool.

I would like to redo my whole web site and do something really creative (not really my strong point) or really useful but I haven’t had a whole lot of time. My new job is awesome but the drive really cuts down on time and theres a million other things to do so the web site is rarely more than a passing thought. Hopefully one day soon I’ll come up with something

I get sinus infections at the drop of a hat. Tuesday night we had a pretty rough storm in our area and all the power went out. I decided to sit on my front porch and enjoy the storm while I ate a sandwich and read the newspaper, it was great. However, with the mixture of pollen on the table and the mold in our outdoor carpet I woke up the next morning knowing the infection was on its way. I hate allergies.

The coolest class I took at UGA was “AI and the Web” Dr Doshi did a great job and and this sounds like a semantic search tool could be built very easily. Awesome possiblilties.
